Dear friend,

From major student scholarships and national poetry awards to a second invitation to the White House, 2011 brought IO many blessings–all pointing to the essential value of our mission to encourage young people to think broadly, create bravely and share their voices with the wider world. In 2011-2012 over 5000 K-12 students in 180 classrooms will learn to love writing and see their work published in 35 separate school journals through InsideOut.

One of 2011′s greatest blessings comes from Hollywood filmmaker Bob Shaye, our founding benefactor whose generosity in 1995 helped the vision of InsideOut take root and grow. Shaye has offered an amazing surprise: a $25,000 challenge grant that will match your donations. We have just under 30 days to make this match. Please pitch in and help. As we face cutbacks in state and federal funding for the arts, we rely even more on the generosity of individuals like you and Bob, who treasure the beauty of children’s voices and value the worth of words.

With warm wishes,

Terry Blackhawk
